Statement of Significance
The Yan Yean Reservoir Caretaker's Quarters, built in 1853-54, is of historical significance at a state level because of its associations with the Yan Yean Reservoir - the earliest metropolitan water supply system in Victoria - and for its long occupation by reservoir caretakers and their families. The Yan Yean Reservoir, completed in 1858 and its associated structures are of exceptional importance as the earliest metropolitan water supply system in Victoria and represented a major engineering feat in the late 1850s. The Caretaker's Quarters is significant for its continual occupation by caretakers at Yan Yean for over 100 years.
