ANNYA CAMP, PORTLAND-CASTERTON RD, ANNYA STATE - History
The camp was used by relief unemployment workers, circa 1930 - 1935, who undertook silviculture treatment of the surrounding forest. It is unknown when the structures were removed, but one is still shown on the 1942 Heywood map.ANNYA CAMP, PORTLAND-CASTERTON RD, ANNYA STATE - Interpretation of Site
Temporary forest workers camp. No extant features were identified. Dense vegetation in the area.

The site is archaeologically significant as sub-surface deposits may be intact as there has been no major development in the area.

The site is of high historical significance as it is an example of the only 1930s labour camp identified in the far south-west.

THE LOCATION OF AT LEAST TWO STRUCTURES IS MARKED BY THE PRESENCE OF STUMPS AND POSTHOLES TO THE NORTH OF THE PICNIC AREA. EXOTIC VEGETATION CONSISTS OF THREE OLD HAWTHORN BUSHES AND SOME ROSES. POSTHOLES MARK THE FORMER EXISTENCE OF A FENCELINE RUNNING NORTH-WEST TO THE CREEK, BEYOND WHICH ARE TWO LARGE PITS OF UNKNOWN FUNCTION.
