Statement of Significance
The Narmbool Run was taken up by a Mr. Neville who had been travelling with a party headed by HamiltonHume travelling from Portland to Ballarat. He built the original 2 room bluestone cottage. Subsequent owners added more rooms surrounding a central courtyard. Some of these rooms were built of stone rubble which later had to be demolished. It is known that 2 large bluestone rooms were added by Mr. Albert Arthur in 1888. The house was sold by Mr Arthur in 1922 to Mr. W. Phillips, who very quickly sold the property in t1923 to the Closer Settlement Commission. The size of the propery was greatly reduced by the Commission.
