Statement of Significance
This hospital complex, mainly built between the 1910s and 1930s, is of historical, social and architectural significance at local level. First established on the site in 1876, the hospital was added to in the succeeding decades to become one of the largest outside Melbourne by the 1920s. It was the main hospital in the Goulburn Valley area until the Shepparton Base Hospital, begun in the 1950s, eventually led to the closure of the Mooroopna Hospital in 1974. Up until then, the hospital had been a major employer in the town, and had become a major centre for the training of nurses. The Hospital is architecturally notable as a complex where a number of different wings, built 1910s to the 1930s, are related by the consistent use of red brick. The main entry wing, built in 1936 to the design of A & K Henderson, is individually notable as a very large, severe, classically inspired institutional building, with a finely detailed stripped classical portico.

The Mooroopna Hospital was a hospital for 100 years and served a large area, people remember, Births, Deaths, Operations, Sickness, People trained there, Many worked there, some met their partner there. It suffered a big fire in 1911, and since vandals furthered the damage. It is in the hands of receivers. Can this be heritage Listed ?

The Building was designed by Henderson a most prominent Architect. His plans show what could be the first Operating Theatre designed in Australia or perhaps in the world. This probably makes the whole building more significant and deserving listing of the whole building
