Statement of Significance
The Hepburn Pool, constructed in the late 1920s, is aesthetically, technically and historically significant at the State level. The pool is aesthetically important for the very naturalistic qualities of its design. It successfully incorporates all the functions of a municipal swimming pool into an apparently natural environment. All the paths and terraces follow the contours, and much of the constructed elements feature the use of local rock. Indeed, only the concrete "deep end" includes any right angles. The pool is also historically significant as the main recreation pool for the Hepburn & Daylesford area for many years, and as part of the recreational and leisure facilities of the Hepburn Springs Reserve, which has attracted visitors from all across Victoria for about 100 years. The Hepburn Pool is one of only a small number of pools formed by a weir placed across a flowing stream, the others known being at Vaughan Springs and Buchan.
