Statement of Significance
A weatherboard homestead and outbuildings of no great exterior pretension, but incorporating very fine and elaborate modelled, leather interior decoration much of it in the Roman manner. There is anecdotal information that the fine tooled leather architraves and wallstencillings were done by the italian artisan who did similar work in Government House.
The first owner/builder is unknown, but there is some evidence that it may have been M.K. McKenzie, MHR. The Reedy Creek run was taken up by his father, Alexander, in 1841 and the oldest wing of the 3 wing house dates from the 1850's. The homestead is the best surviving in the area and is typical of 19th century homestead design. The internal decorations are superb examples of the Victorian passion for building up a decorative scheme by laying pattern upon patttern and colour upon colour. The excessively deep cornices, large fireplace and fitted drawing room carpet are of significance.
The oldest, South, wing with its original kitchen and more primitive construction is notable.
