CAMPBELL WESTERN OUTSTATION - History
Heritage Inventory History of Site: The site is part of the Campbell Brothers' MT Cole property - the first European settlement in the region. Colin Campbell was a prominent settler, being both a member of parliament and an Honorary Correspondent (distributed rations and supplies to Aborigines). Historical records attest to Aboriginal people camping around the property throughout the 1840s, 50s and 60s.
CAMPBELL WESTERN OUTSTATION - Interpretation of Site
Heritage Inventory Interpretation: The site was and outstation and as such served as the residence of both a shepherd and a hutkeeper. The site appears to have been modified in the 1850s. It is interesting to note that less than 100m away from the remains lies a large Aboriginal artefact scatter, comprising quartz flakes and cores. An Aboriginal scarred tree is located on the creek bank.
