Statement of Significance
- for its retention of a rockwork garden bed in the shape of a map of Australia; an unusual reminder of the nationalistic pride displayed at the turn of the century coinciding with the federation of six colonies to form the Commonwealth of Australia;
- for the retention of contemporary photographs and documentary accounts of the garden in its mature state prior to closure of the school which enable the surviving relics to be interpreted.

Stony Creek School Site - Physical Description 1
DESCRIPTION
This site is a cleared area of ground surrounded by forest and approached by a narrow dirt track. A post and rail fence was erected around part of the original two acre school site by the then Department of Conservation Forests & Lands and the Talbot Tourism Committee in August-September 1987. The map of Australia and other garden beds formed of quartz are still extant and some early plants (especially succulents) still grow on the site.
Although the school building has been demolished, its position is marked by remains of the brick footings.
