Known as 'The Big Tree', the Otway Messmate is a natural hybrid between Eucalyptus regnans (Mountain Ash) and Eucalyptus obliqua (Messmate). The tree is very large but is only in fair condition, possessing a large hollow in the trunk and severe storm damage to the canopy. Its circumference is possibly one of the largest in Victoria.
