Statement of Significance
Location or Context: important landmark
Early photographs of the street show this tree to be well established (100 years at least) It is called the Diary Tree because a letterbox attached to its trunk was used for submissions to a community newsletter. The tree has suffered from increased traffic due to road widening causing its south side to die and from root disturbance by tranch digging along the north side of the trunk. Car parking under the tree was also a problem but community and council efforts has helped enormously with its preservation.
