Former Ballarat Gun Cotton Factory - Veterans Description for Public
The Former Ballarat Gun Cotton Factory was built in the Second World War. During this period, Australia witnessed a huge expansion for defence industries as it geared up for 'total war'. New factories and facilities were constructed as part of the munitions effort but the pre-war trend of locating nearly all defence industries in Victoria was actually reversed and the majority of new factories of this time were built in other states. There were, of course, many additions to existing facilities and scores of private firms turned over almost their entire production to war work for a few years.
