Statement of Significance
The Bolangum Inn Site and Memorial, 1566 Bolangum Inn Road, Kanya, has significance as a monument to the Bolangum Inn that was situated nearby. The Inn had been built in c.1865 by Robert Holmes, early land selector, and until c.1990 was the last of a number of 19th century hotels that had been built on the route between Navarre and Marnoo. The Inn also became widely known in the second half of the 20th century as the hotel that raised the most funds for the Royal Children's Hospital Appeal Melbourne, in the early 1960s.
The Bolangum Inn Site and Memorial is historically and socially significant at a LOCAL level. The site and memorial is associated with the development of the Bolangum Inn in c.1865 by Robert Holmes, land selector and served as a hotel until the late 20th century. The Inn represented the last of a number of 19th century inns built on the route between Navarre and Marnoo in the early years of settlement. From 1949, the Inn become widely known for its contribution to the Royal Children's Hospital Appeal, Melbourne and in the early 1960s it eclipsed all other Victorian hotels in raising the most funds. The Memorial was constructed in more recent years by the local community to commemorate the development of the Bolangum Inn and the achievements of its licensees.
The Bolangum Inn Site is archeologically significant at a LOCAL level. It is of importance for its potential to provide information that contributes to a greater understanding of the history of the settlement and establishment of the district, and has a strong presumption of archaeological research potential.

Bolangum Inn site and Memorial, 1566 Bolangum Inn Road, KANYA - Physical Description 1
The Bolangum Inn Memorial, 1566 Bolangum Inn Road,Kanya, consists of an irregular Grampians stone headstone on a concrete base and it features three marble plaques.
The top plaque reads: "The Site of the Bolangum Inn Est. 1865. Hostel for Travellers and District Residents Until 1970."
The middle plaque reads: "Noted for Raising Funds for Royal Children's Good Friday Appeal 1949-1970. Most Money Raised Victorian Hotels in 1962 and 1964. Last Licensees Molly and Scotty Wallace."
The bottom plaque reads: "Kanya Post Office 1891-1974. Conducted by 3 Generations Of Same Family - King, Davies, Wallace."
The Bolangum Inn Site retains footings and other building remnants including part walls which show the footprint of the building. There are also remnant plantings including Cypress trees on the site indicating the garden areas of the site.
