MARTINS ROAD HISTORICAL COMPLEX - History
According to original assessment:
"Part of original land owned by Henry Huon in 1880s. Bought by Albury Wodonga Development Corp in the 1970s".
Currently used for agriculture.
Outside of this, there is little information regarding the features on this historical site. The creamery appeared not to have been so prominent to be widely documented in general texts about Wodonga, for example and does not appear in the any of the regional Parish plans or geological maps; nor is it documented within general histories.
The area of Levena is located approximately 10km south of Wodonga CBD. The name is apparently derived by the reverse spelling of "AVENEL". The first school was opened in 1875 and is rural. Tobacco may have been grown in the area since 1868 by Mr. Heilman who arrived back from the American Civil War. Greater intensification in the north east of Victoria occurred with the introduction of American flu-cured varieties and was encouraged by the government. By the 1960s there was over production and the government installed a quota system.MARTINS ROAD HISTORICAL COMPLEX - Interpretation of Site
An early to mid 20th Century farmhouse complex which has a dairy and creamery close to the house, which is surrounded by fruit trees, and a smokehouse located 150m away. According to the original site card, these probably date to the 1930s and 1940s, a time when farming was at its most intensive and land use was diverse, including dairy farming, tobacco planting and drying and grape growing.

Heritage Inventory Description
MARTINS ROAD HISTORICAL COMPLEX - Heritage Inventory Description
Original inventory describes: remains of dairy foundations, a well, creamery, mature trees, former house location, dairy drain & household rubbish, and smokehouse remains. Foundations of dairy and smokehouse made from concrete, and timber weatherboard and stump of the creamery. Trees, mainly fruit, surrounding where house used to be.
A Consent to Damage over Half was issued in 2004 (C309 9 August 2004) was issued after the inspection; in order to allow disturbance to the various 20th century buildings. However, even though the site land was not accessed at the time of the 2010 NE survey, both the inspection from the road and Google aerials suggest little change since original survey.
