SMITHS REEF PUDDLERS - History
Smith's Reef Mine was opened ca. 1855 and was used until ca.1880s. The area is one of Victoria's richest quartz mining regions.

Two puddler machines located within an extensive area of alluvial workings in the vicinity of Smiths Reef Mine, opened ca .1855 and used until ca.1880.

SMITHS REEF PUDDLERS - Heritage Inventory Description
Site contains two puddlers located within an extensive area of alluvial workings in the vicinity of Smiths Reef.
The first puddler(E242482/N5899246) is approximately 5.5m in diameter with an inner mound approximately1.8m in diameter. The inner mound is badly eroded.
The second puddler (E2425101N5899265) is approximately 6m in diameter with an inner mound approximately 3m in diameter. Remains of the centre pivot post survives. The puddler is in good condition
