BATS RIDGE FAUNAL RESERVE, LIME KILNS - Heritage Inventory Description
Rectangular building and three lime kilns cut into rock. Hut falling into ruins. Site inspected Jan 1994. Rectangular sandstone block structure (3.85 x 4.68 metres) with two brick lines corridors. The walls of the structure reach to a height of 4 courses on t he eastern side, and six on the northern side. The eastern corridor terminate in a circular chamber (approximately 4 metres in diameter). The north eastern corridor terminates in two circular chambers, the second accessed through the first. The chambers are approximately 10 metres deep and are lined with bricks approximately 0.6 metres thick.
Heritage Inventory Significance: One of the few (if not the only) example of structures associated with the lime industry in Portland district on Crown land.
