LAKE CONDAH - COMPLEX D (MURPHY'S HUT) - Heritage Inventory Description
A complex which includes - 1. A four roomed weatherboard hut2. The floor of a timber shed 3. The remains of a milking shed 4. A square dry stone wall stock pen. The site is surrounded by exotic trees including pine, peppercorn, hawthorn and oak trees. There are also post and wire fences and modifications have been made to dry stone walls to post and wire fences. The site and surroundings are littered with twentieth century material.

Informants: DCNR/nRecorded by: A. Murphy & D. Rhodes Date Recorded: 26FEB1990 Heritage Inventory Site Features: 1. Four roomed weatherboard house. Sawn timber frame with floor bearers mounted on rough undressed basalt footings laid directly on the ground with no mortar. The external walls are weatherboard, formerly painted red while the interior walls are lined with tongue and groove Baltic pineboard. The floor is rough hewn, straight edged floorboards. One window per room, two windows in the front wall, two at the rear. Two chimneys in the south west wall, one servicing the kitchen, and a narrower in the lounge, made from undressed basalt stones with lime cement mortar. The interior fireplaces are cement rendered with brick arches above the fireplaces. Remains of a stove in the kitchen fireplace. The nails used in the building appear to be wire drawn "rose head" nails.2. The remains of a garage/shed. Wooden bearers on the ground define the outline of the building. The site is littered with galvanised iron, the remains of an old winch and an old vintage car chassis. The condition is totally collapsed, extremely poor. 3. Possibly the remains of a milking shed consisting of a dry stone wall, rectangular in shape, although the north east side is open. An internal timber framework, supported by the wall, divides the area into six milking bays and a small storage stall. The roof is galvanised iron. The "furniture" (bails, troughs, drains etc) is evident. Poor condition.4. Stock pen. A square dry stone wall enclosure. Two rows of stone are laid in straight courses with small rubble infill. the wall angles inward and has coping stones. A gate and post mark the entrance in the south wall. Fair condition.
