Informants: DCNR/nRecorded by: A.Murphy & D.Rhodes Date Recorded: 28FEB1990 Heritage Inventory Site Features: 1. Rectangular drystone building, approximately 9 x 4 metres, built from undressed basalt rocks by laying adjacent rows of stones with a rubble infill. The walls taper inward. There is a square protrusion at one end of the building, possibly for an internal fireplace, although there is no definite evidence of a chimney. Traces of ash and mortar in the walls indicate that the walls were sealed by plugging them with mortar. Artefacts found included ceramic and case gin bottle fragments.2. Drystone wall building, 1.4 x 2 metres, wall height to 1.5 metres. The north east wall has collapsed.3. Basalt footings for a rectangular timber building 3 x 4 metres. A single course of two rows of basalt stones in a shallow trench with rubble infill. Possible post holes between the stones.4. Stockyards consisting of a long rectangular yard, divided in two by an internal dividing wall. Constructed of two rows of stones, with rubble infill, tapering towards the top, coping stones present. Associated with may of the other walls in the complex. 5. Rectangular hut built from non-dressed rectangular basalt blocks. Four external dry stone walls constructed by laying two adjacent rows of stone, with rubble infill. The walls taper inwards and may have been packed with mud and mortar originally and have round corners. Approximately 6 x 3.5 metres, the door is in the narrow wall. Internal wall forms a recess next to the entrance, possibly for a fireplace. Probably without windows.
