GAIRDNERS COTTAGE - History
Heritage Inventory History of Site: William and John Gairdner (or Gardiner) took out a squatting licence in 1847, followed by an applicationto purchase the site under pre-emptive right in January 1854. The cottage was probably built prior to this purchase of the site.Heritage Inventory Description
GAIRDNERS COTTAGE - Heritage Inventory Description
The remains of the original house on this site reclad with "modern" weatherboards but retaining some panels of wattle and daub. Only two other examples of true wattle and daub are known to exist in the state. This site was "straightened" in 1984, and subsequently had an open frame shed built over it, but this is only partially successful, some sections of wattle and daub being unprotected.
Heritage Inventory Significance: This site is mainly significant for the surviving panels of wattle and daub, which are of a very early date (c. 1848).
