RED JACKET TOWNSHIP SITE - History
Heritage Inventory History of Site: Red Jacket was first settled in 1862 during the initial gold rush to the valley. The first licensed hotel in the Jordan Valley was O'Keefe's, which was operated by that family until about 1913.References: Steenhuis

School opened 22 May 1871 average attendance of 23. wooden building, shingle roof, fireplace and 4 windows, 20x14feet

RED JACKET TOWNSHIP SITE - Heritage Inventory Description
All that remains are the ruins of the post office chimney, the sites of the Red Jacket hotel, school, cemetery and a few other buildings. The cemetery has a number of headstones.
Heritage Inventory Significance: Regional
Information from R.Paoletti (2012): Cemetery: Old head stones still evident and some rusty fences still stand, other graves can only be distinguished by indentations in the ground.
Town site: Many artefacts can be located across this area including metal relics, ornaments, kitchen objects, broken glass and building nails. The site of the post office is the only chimney believed to be still standing at this site
