JOHANSSON FAMILY GRAVES - History
The graves are reportedly of the three Johansson children (unnamed). Two children are buried in the larger grave, and one in the smaller. This is indicative but not conclusive of the devastation caused by childhood illnesses or epidemics of earlier times. The history of the graves is not documented, and the story of the Johanssons comes from a Mr Herbert Bennett, 86 years old in 2003, who lived at Jericho in 1931. The story needs further investigation.Heritage Inventory Description
JOHANSSON FAMILY GRAVES - Heritage Inventory Description
The site consists of two graves about 9 metres apart, on relatively flat ground. The larger grave to the west measures about 2 x 2.4 metres, and is covered in a 0.6 to 0.8 metre high layer of large, moss-coated rocks. Two bare metal plates lie on top of the rocks, at the northern end of the grave. The smaller grave measures about 1 x 1.8 metres, and consists of a 0.3m high mound of earth covered with moss and grasses. A small tree is growing in the south-west corner of the grave, and a scrubby plant in the south-east corner.
The graves are situated in an area of light scrub and small to medium size gum trees, sparsely distributed. The graves are on the south-west side of Red Jacket Track, and the ground rises at a gentle incline from the edge of the track to the flat area on which the graves are located.
Physical Conditions: Fair, clearly visible.
