Statement of Significance
File note: Erected in 1906 to replace an earlier lightship, the Gellibrand Pile Light was struck by the Melbourne Trader on the 21st June 1976. As it hadbecome a shipping harzard itset laight and burntby thePublic Works Department on the 23rd June 1976.
The Public Works Departmentsubsequently salvaged, restoredand donated the top sectionto the Melbourne Maritime Museum.
