Statement of Significance
The Paradise Public Hall, 4508 Ararat-St Arnaud Road, Paradise, has significance as a moderately intact example of an early 20th century building recognised by the local community for cultural and recreational reasons. Previously the local Mechanics Institute, the building appears to be in good condition.
The Paradise Public Hall is architecturally significant at a LOCAL level. It demonstrates original design qualities for an early 20th century hall building. These qualities include the gambrel roof form, galvanised corrugated iron roof cladding, and the horizontal timber weatherboard and strapped cement sheet wall cladding. Other intact or appropriate qualities include the timber framed double hung windows, rear gabled window with face cream brick chimney and the broad eaves.
The Paradise Public Hall is historically and socially significant at a LOCAL level. It is associated with the development of a Mechanics Institute in the early 20th century, and it recognised and valued by the local community for cultural and recreational reasons.
Overall, the Paradise Public Hall is of LOCAL significance.

The Paradise Public Hall, 4508 Ararat-St Arnaud Road, Paradise, has a rural setting with gravelled surrounds and nearby eucalypts.
The single storey, early 20th century Public Hall building is characterised by a gambrel roof form at the front, together with a rear traversing gable that may have been introduced at a later time. The front lower shallow-pitched room may also be a later addition. These roof forms are clad in galvanised corrugated iron.
Early features of the design include the horizontal timber weatherboard and strapped cement sheet wall cladding, timber framed double hung windows and the broad eaves. There is a face cream brick chimney at the rear that is possibly introduced with the rear wing. The ramp at the front has also been introduced.
