Statement of Significance
The former Paradise Uniting Church, 16 Raeburn Road, Paradise has significance as an example of a rudimentary, rural interwar Gothic styled church building and for its associations with the development of the Presbyterian Church and the Uniting Church from the early 20th century.Built in 1932 by Gardiners Construction Co. of Melbourne, the building appears to be in good condition and apart from the introduced concrete floor, is of moderate to high integrity.
The former Paradise Uniting Church, 16 Raeburn Road, Paradise is architecturally significant at a LOCAL level. It demonstrates original design qualities of a simple interwar Gothic style. These qualities include the simple gable roof form, together with the projecting minor porch gable at the front. Other intact or appropriate qualities include the galvanised corrugated iron roof cladding, fibro cement wall cladding, timber porch posts, pointed arched windows at the sides, and the vertically boarded timber entrance doors at the front and side (including the transom windows above the side doorway). The communion font and table within the church building contribute to the significance of the place. The surrounding trees also contribute to the significance of the place.
The former Paradise Uniting Church, 16 Raeburn Road, Paradise is historically significant at a LOCAL level. It is associated with the development of the Presbyterian Church from 1932 and with the Uniting Church from the 1970s. It has further associations with George Emerson who donated the land for the church and with a Mr. Beard, the first minister between 1932 - 1940.
The former Paradise Uniting Church, 16 Raeburn Road, Paradise is socially significant at a LOCAL level. It is recognised and valued by the Paradise community for religious reasons.

Former Paradise Uniting Church, 16 Raeburn Road, PARADISE - Physical Description 1
The former Paradise Uniting Church, 16 Raeburn Road, Paradise has a rural setting on a large allotment and is surrounded by eucalypts and some exotic trees. There is a plain concrete pedestrian pathway centrally located from the front boundary to the church porch.
The fibro-cement Interwar Gothic style church building is characterised by a simple gable roof form clad in galvanised corrugated iron, together with a projecting minor porch gable at the front that is clad in introduced galvanised deck sheeting. The porch is supported by timber posts and has a raised brick base.
Other early features of the design include the pointed arch windows at the sides and the vertically boarded entrance doors at the front and side. The side entrance also has early transom windows.
