The houseat Rostronis historically and architecturally significant at a LOCAL level. It is associated with residential developments at Rostron in the early 20th century. House, Lot 1 on PS 546381, Ararat- St Arnaud Road, ROSTRON - Physical Description 1
The house at Rostron, has a rural setting on elevated land. It is surrounded by mature cypresses and eucalypts, together with remnant plantings of an early garden.
The asymmetrical, single storey, rendered, Edwardian styled house is characterised by a broad gambrel roof form, together with minor gable roof forms that project at the front and side, and an encircling ogee form verandah. These roof forms are clad in unpainted and lapped galvanised corrugated steel. Four early rendered chimneys with corbelled tops adorn the roofline. Narrow overhangs with paired timber brackets are features of the eaves.
An early feature of the design is the encircling verandah. It is supported by early turned timber columns. The guttering has deteriorated substantially, as has some of the roof cladding.
Other early features of the design include the decorative gable infill (strapping and timber ventilators), light cream stringcoursing on walls under the verandah and the timber framed windows.
