SLOAN'S SAWMILL, SNOWY CREEK - History
Heritage Inventory History of Site: The mill was established in 1907 by William Sloan, on the probable site of an earlier mill operated by his father, Isaac sloan, in the late 1870s or early 1880s. The mill cut mainly timber for dredge construction and repair, before being closed down in early 1912.
SLOAN'S SAWMILL, SNOWY CREEK - Interpretation of Site
Heritage Inventory Interpretation: The mill functioned as a small 'spot' mill, with the dry stone wall forming a platform on which to erect a steam powered mill. The water race from Big Flat Creek delivered water under the sawbench to wash the sawdust away.
