Statement of Significance
The horse drawn manual in the former fire station, 12 Napier Street, St. Arnaud, has significance as a rare and intact example of 19th century fire-fighting equipment. This fire cart served the St. Arnaud township from 1879 until the early 20th century.
The horse drawn fire manual is aesthetically and scientifically significant at a LOCAL level. It demonstrates a form of 19th century fire fighting technology that is no longer in practise.
The horse drawn fire manual is historically significant at a LOCAL level. It is associated with the Prahran Council until 1878, and particularly with the development of the St. Arnaud Fire Brigade from 1879 and into the 20th century.
Overall, the horse drawn fire manual is of LOCAL significance.
