Statement of Significance
The War Memorial in the Municipal Reserve, corner of Napier and Market Streets, St. Arnaud, has significance as a memorial to those soldiers who lost their lives in the conflicts of World War II, Malaya and Borneo, Korea, and Vietnam between 1939 and 1973.
The War Memorial in the Municipal Reserve, corner of Napier and Market Streets, is historically and socially significant at a LOCAL level. It is associated with local soldiers from St. Arnaud who lost their lives during World War II (1939-45), and the conflicts in Malaya (1948-60), Borneo (1962-66), Vietnam (1962-73) and Korea (1950-53). The Memorial is subsequently highly valued and recognised by the St. Arnaud community for cultural and commemorative reasons.

St. Arnaud Town Hall, WWII Memorial, 40 Napier Street, ST ARNAUD - Physical Description 1
The War Memorial is situated on the south-western corner of the Municipal Reserve at the corner of Napier and Market Streets. It is comprised of a square granite trunk with a sloping, stepped and tapered top. The memorial rests on a stepped concrete base with an unpainted brick surround.
The west side of the memorial is dedicated to those who lost their lives in World War II (1939-45), with the north side dedicated to the Malayan and Borneo conflicts (1948-60 and 1962-66 respectively), the south side dedicated to the Korean War (1950-53) and the east side to the Vietnam War (1962-73).
