House, 15 Silvermines Road, ST ARNAUD - Physical Description 1
The house at 15 Silvermines Road is set on a large residential allotment, with wide side setbacks and a front setback of approximately 5 metres. The open surrounds are largely grassed with some insignificant plantings, and there is a round galvanised corrugated iron water tank at the rear. The front is bound by an introduced hollow tubular steel fence with a face brick plinth, and is approximately 1500 mm high.
The single storey, horizontal weatherboard, Late Victorian styled house is characterised by a hipped roof form, together with a return convex verandah that projects towards the front and side. Another projecting hipped roof at the roof may be a more recent addition. These roof forms are clad in green corrugated Colorbond. An early unpainted brick chimney with a multi-corbelled top adorns the roofline. Narrow overhangs with worked and paired timber brackets, roundels and panelling are features of the eaves.
The symmetrical composition at the front is accentuated by the centrally located early timber framed doorway having a four panelled timber door and transom, and flanking timber framed double hung windows. Additional early timber framed double hung windows are located at the sides, with more recent timber framed windows at the rear.
A feature of the design is the return convex verandah. It is supported by recent square timber posts.
