Statement of Significance
The house at 53B Ligar Street, Stawell, has significance as a moderately intact example of the Victorian style. Although the date of construction has not been ascertained, it appears to have been constructed during the second half of the 19th century.
The house at 53B Ligar Street is architecturally significant at a LOCAL level. It demonstrates original design qualities of the Victorian style. These qualities include the hipped roof form, together with the hipped roof verandah that projects towards the street frontage. Other intact or appropriate qualities include the rear hipped roof form, rendered wall construction, galvanised corrugated iron roof cladding, narrow eaves with timber brackets at the front, rendered chimneys, and the timber framed multi paned double hung windows.
The house at 53B Ligar Street is historically significant at a LOCAL level. It is associated with residential developments in Stawell during the second half of the 19th century.
Overall, the house at 53B Ligar Street is of LOCAL significance.

House, 53B Ligar Street, STAWELL - Physical Description 1
The house at 53B Ligar Street, Stawell, is set on an average sized allotment for the area. The surrounds comprise perimeter garden beds, large exotic tree and some small grassed areas. There is a modest front setback and wide side setbacks, with the front bound by an introduced open horizontal timber paling fence.
The single storey, rendered, Victorian styled house is characterised by a hipped roof form, together with a hipped verandah that projects towards the street frontage. There is also a rear hipped roof form. These roofs are clad in dark painted galvanised corrugated iron. Early rendered chimneys adorn the roofline, while narrow overhangs and front timber brackets are features of the eaves.
The most substantial change to the house is noted on the front verandah. It is supported by introduced columns and has introduced screening at the front and side, together with an introduced curving timber valance.
Early features of the design include the timber framed multi paned double hung windows.
