The Banner is a large cloth banner with illustrations and cords and tassels. The banner was constructed to be supported on an upper horizontal rod and carried in processions. The illustrations are on both sides. One side commemorates the eight hours movement with a central figure carrying a sword and the words "Eight Hours Labour", "Eight hours recreation" "Eight hours rest" and "Unity is Strength". The other side commemorates the Stawell Amalgamated Miners' Association with two male figures shaking hands representing labour and capital.
The banner is displayed in a vertical perspex casing hanging in the stairwell of the Stawell Town Hall where both sides of the banner can be displayed and appreciated.
