'The Midway Shop', 132 Main Street, STAWELL - Physical Description 1
The building at 132 Main Street, Stawell, contributes to the architectural and visual amenity of the predominantly Victorian and interwar streetscape.
The symmetrical, single storey, rendered brick, interwar Spanish Mission shopfront styled building is characterised by a rectangular parapet with an elevated title panel that reads "The Midway Shop". Flanking the central panel are lower parapet ends capping in terra cotta Spanish tiles. The parapet is further accentuated by the large central incised semicircle and flanking smaller circles.
A projecting cantilevering canopy separates the upper reaches of the building from the early shopfront. It features early metal framed shopfront windows with a central ingo, timber framed and glazed door and early black glazed base tiles and light brown glazed surround tiles (some of which are missing).
Beyond the shopfront is an early skillion roof form and brick walls (including parapet wall) that have been overpainted white. There is also an early painted brick chimney and early window openings, together with an early cuboid wing that projects from the rear.
Another skillion wing also projects at the rear.
