House, 15 Mary Street, STAWELL - Physical Description 1
The house at 15 Mary Street, Stawell, is set on an averaged sized allotment for the area. It has a modest front setback and one wide side setback. The setting is rudimentary, comprising open grassed areas, and a small amount of shrubbery and trees. The front is bound by a timber post and rail and cyclone wire fence, and a scrolled metal gate.
The symmetrical, single storey, horizontal timber weatherboard, Victorian styled house is characterised by tripled gabled roof form, together with a hipped convex verandah that projects towards the street frontage. There is also an introduced skillion addition at the rear. These roof forms are clad in galvanised corrugated iron. An early painted brick chimney adorns the roofline at the side.
A feature of the design is the front verandah. It is supported by stop chamfered timber posts and is decorated with cast iron brackets and valances that may have been introduced at an early period. The concrete verandah floor has been introduced.
Early features of the design include the central timber framed doorway and flanking timber framed double hung windows, together with the other windows at the sides and the window hoods supported by timber brackets.
