Statement of Significance
The house at 10 Prince Street, Stawell, has significance as a moderately intact example of miner's cottage style. Possibly built in c.1880, the house appears to be in fair condition when viewed from the street.
The house at 10 Prince Street is historically and architecturally significant at a LOCAL level. It is associated with residential developments in Stawell in the 19th century, and it demonstrates original design qualities of miner's cottage style. These qualities include the gable roof form, the front verandah, single storey height, horizontal timber weatherboard wall cladding, galvanised corrugated iron roof cladding, the multi-paned timber framed double hung windows, front timber framed doorway and the timber verandah posts.
Overall, the house at 10 Prince Street is of LOCAL significance.

House, 10 Prince Street, STAWELL - Physical Description 1
The small house at 10 Prince Street is set on a flat site at a modest set back from the street boundary. The house is a characteristic miner's cottage style. The single storey building has a steeply pitched transverse gable roof that extends towards the front at a flatter pitch to form the roof of the front verandah. The roof also extended into a skillion extension at the rear of the building. The roof is clad in corrugated steel. The house has two face brick external chimneys. The chimneys has decorative bands of corbelled brick work. The verandah is supported on square timber posts. The sides and the front to half height have been infilled with cement sheeting. The walls are clad in square edged weatherboards. The house has a central four panelled door and there are multi-paned, timber, double hung windows flanking the door.
