Statement of Significance
The house at 18 Victoria Street, Stawell, has significance as an intact example of the Victorian style. Possibly built in the late 19th century, it appears to be in good condition when viewed from the street.
The house at 18 Victoria Street is historically and architecturally significant at a LOCAL level. It is possibly associated with residential developments in Stawell in the late 19th century, and it demonstrates original design qualities of a Victorian style. These qualities include the hipped roof form, together with the hipped bullnosed verandah that projects towards the street frontage. Other intact or appropriate qualities include the brick chimney with the project top, narrow eaves with paired timber brackets, paterae and panelling, single storey height, horizontal timber weatherboard wall cladding, galvanised corrugated iron roof cladding, symmetrical composition to the front facade with the central timber framed doorway having sidelights and highlights and the flanking timber framed double hung tripartite windows, turned timber verandah columns, and the decorative cast iron verandah valances and brackets.
Overall, the house at 18 Victoria Street is of LOCAL significance.

House, 18 Victoria Street, STAWELL - Physical Description 1
The house at 18 Victoria Street, Stawell, is set on an average sized allotment for the area and has wide side setbacks and a front garden setting comprising open grassed areas, concrete pedestrian path and perimeter flower beds. The front is bound by an introduced timber post and rail and cyclone wire fence, together with a scrolled metal gate that are both approximately 1300 mm high.
The single storey, horizontal timber weatherboard, Victorian styled house is characterised by a hipped roof form, together with a hipped bullnosed verandah that projects towards the street frontage. These roof forms are clad in galvanised corrugated iron. An early brick chimney (now painted) with a projecting top adorns the roofline. Narrow overhangs with paired timber brackets, paterae and panelling are features of the eaves.
An early feature of the design is the front verandah. It is supported by turned timber columns and has decorative cast iron valances and brackets.
Other early features of the design include the symmetrical composition of the front facade with its early central timber framed doorway having sidelights and highlights, and flanking timber framed double hung tripartite windows.
