Statement of Significance
The main building, a three storey brick structure in a gothic style with stucco dressings to the openings and a castellated tower (now missing its original spire) was erected in 1900 for the Sisters of the Loreto Convent. The architect for this building is not known, although the work was carried out on day labour under the supervision of A.H. Andrews. Behind this grand facade nestles a stone house and outbuildings dating from early times and flanking these buildings is another stone house which could date from early times (albeit substantially altered). The complex is separated from the street by a high stone wall punctuated by a rendered entrance archway.
The College buildings collectively form an interesting group, with stone structures dating from early times and a picturesque gothic facade to the main building that is a landmark of the Portland foreshore.
