Kenloch, 487 Mt Dandenong Tourist Road, Olinda, is of historic,aesthetic and scientific significance.
Why is it significant?
The house is of historical significance because of its association withthe development of private homes to guest house use during the 1920s.

Of scientific (horticultural) significance as a fine collection ofmature trees, which are notable for their age.
Of state significance because the garden is associated with FerdinandVon Mueller, director of Melbourne's Botanic Gardens in 1867 who was afriend of the first owner C.H. Kauper. It also has associations with MrGuilfoyle, Curator of the Botanic Gardens from 1873 who helped ThomasKennon design the house and gardens.

Kenloch - Physical Description 1
A substantial late Edwardian dwelling with a gabled terracotta tiled roof and half-timbering to much of the structure. The house has a prominent corner tower with a pyramidal roof and a timber shingle balustrade above curved timber brackets. The main roof has exposed rafters at the eaves and tall brick chimneys with concrete capping and twin terracotta pots. The original house remains at the core of building but is largely obscured by extensive later additions and the enclosed verandahs.
The house is set in extensive landscaped grounds planted with a number of impressive exotic trees including sequoias, cedars, pines and spruces.
