Statement of Significance
The double fronted stone house, 23 Bentinck Street was erected c.1875 for James Fawthrop Jnr. The building was subsequently altered and extended c.1900, and remains one of the most important stone houses in Portland. The surviving verandah with its gothic style branches, the numerous outbuildings including the kitchen with its ~ine timber vaulted roof and the unusual fenestration are notable features.
