Statement of Significance
Statement of Significance as recorded under the Queenscliff Heritage Study 2009
The Bungalow is of historical and architectural significance to the Borough of Queenscliffe. The Bungalow is historically significant as a comparatively early twentieth century house in Point Lonsdale, built by Nathaniel Cayzer of the locally prolific Cavzer building family. Architecturally, it is a fine example from a collection of early twentieth century holiday houses in Point Lonsdale which follow the local vernacular of weatherboard construction, hipped roof forms, and timber-posted verandah with balustrade, frieze, and brackets. The integral verandah and main roof are an exception, following an approach which is less common in houses of this period in Point Lonsdale.

The Bungalow, 39-41 Point Lonsdale Road, Point Lonsdale - Physical Description 1
Extract from the 2009 study
The Bungalow is a single-storey weatherboard house, with a main hipped roof form clad in corrugated galvanised steel, and the verandah roof integral with the main roof. The return verandah has timber posts, balustrade, frieze, and brackets, and the under croft is clad in a timber planking screen. The timber on the verandah appears to have been replaced in recent years, and the verandah frieze is a gridded timber type common in the Point Lonsdale area. Centrally located timber steps provide access to the elevated verandah. The remainder of the house is obscured by thick foliage in the very deep front setback, largely concealing views of the windows and entrance. A weatherboard side elevation can be seen from no. 43, a vacant site incorporated in part into the garden of no. 41. A timber picket fence marks the property boundary. The visible portion of house appears to be externally intact.
