FORMER DUCK PONDS SCHOOL - History
First Duck Ponds School. St John's Church of England, Duck Ponds. Look at files of G Aldy in records centre. Trustees were John Edward Bates and others.Heritage Inventory Description
FORMER DUCK PONDS SCHOOL - Heritage Inventory Description
A well-preserved bluestone structure of two (possibly three) rooms. The front and rear walls are well-built of regularly coursed, roughly dressed bluestone blocks, set in a very coarse lime mortar. The side walls are random masonry, using some dressed blocks and some field stones. The internal walls are of random construction, using field stones. Building corners, doors and windows are constructed of well-dressed stone. Wall interiors have been finished with a thick lime cement render, which has been finished to resemble regularly coursed masonry. The exterior has been rendered using a coarse, gritty lime mortar. There is a stone fireplace in each room, the one in the front room (the main classtoom?) having a brick hearth.
There is little evidence that in situ archaeological deposits remain at this site. There are very few artefacts and there is no trace of any additional structures, outside the main building. It is possible that some in situ remains may be located outside the building.
