Statement of Significance
What is significant?
The Wallinduc War Memorial is located on a road reserve at the intersection of the Lismore - Pitfield Road and the Berrybank - Wallinduc Road, adjacent to the Wallinduc CFA Shed. The memorial takes the form of a vernacular stone cairn, constructed of approximately twenty highly irregular courses of basalt, situated on concrete plinth. The cairn features two embossed brass plaques that commemorate those soldiers who served in the First and Second World War. The memorial was erected by the Wallinduc community as a tribute to those members of the local community that served and fell in each of the great wars.

The Wallinduc War Memorial is of historic, social and aesthetic significance to the settlement of Wallinduc and the Golden Plains Shire.
Why is it significant?
The Wallinduc War Memorial is of historic significance for demonstrating the commitment of the Wallinduc community in commemorating, at a local level, some of the most important events in the national history of Australia. The memorial is especially significant as a tribute to the roles of those from the local community who served and died in the great wars.
It is of social significance as the focus of acts of commemoration such as Anzac Day and Remembrance Day, and as a place of homage for the community.
It is of aesthetic significance for its form, style and iconography to express deep meaning and reflection. This significance is enhanced by its setting and location, as well as its materiality, being composed of irregular basalt blocks derived from local repositories.

Wallinduc War Memorial - Physical Description 1
The Wallinduc War Memorial is located on a road reserve at the intersection of the Lismore - Pitfield Road and the Berrybank - Wallinduc Road. The memorial is situated within a triangular grass verge, adjacent to the Wallinduc CFA Shed. The road reserve features perimeter planting of Eucalyptus cladocalyx (Sugar Gum) to the west, with several specimens of Grevillea robusta (Silky Oak) planted adjacent to the memorial.
The Wallinduc War Memorial takes the form of a vernacular stone cairn, constructed of approximately twenty highly irregular courses of basalt, upon a concrete plinth. The cairn features two embossed brass plaques that commemorate those soldiers who served in the First and Second World Wars. The names of twenty-one soldiers who served in the First World War are featured within an embossed brass plaque set into the eastern elevation of the cairn. The names of twenty-six soldiers who served in the Second World War are featured within a rectangular plaque set into the northern elevation of the cairn.
