Williamstown Victorian Rifle Range Pavilion - Veterans Description for Public
The former Victorian Rifle Range Pavilion, in Hobsons Bay, Williamstown was constructed in 1879, embodying an earlier homestead and extended in 1906. This rifle range was the oldest and largest range in Victoria, and one of the largest in the world, and has associations with important colonial personal ities such as Colonel John Templeton, Sir Frederick Sargood, and Colonel Sir Charles Merett. With other parts of the Williamstown coastline, the range played an important role in the colony's first defence installations and has close links with the history of both volunteer and paid military forces in Victoria.
