The site of the RAAF Training Camp, at 124 Lord Somers Road, dates from April 3rd 1941 when 50 acres were compulsorily acquired by the army. It was disposed to State in 1947 and repurchased for a migrant hostel from 1949 until 1958. In the car park stands the Vampire MK 35A Aircraft, to commemorate the site as the No.1 Initial Training School for the R.A.A.F. where 13,000 youung men and women were trained. The aircraft was dedicated as a memorial by Air Vice-Marshal P.J. Scully on 25th October 1985.
