Simpson Barracks - Veterans Description for Public
The Simpson Barracks, on Greensborough Road, were established during the Second World War on land compulsorily acquired 23 September 1943. The Second World War produced the greatest number and dispersal of defence buildings and sites ever experienced in Victoria. In general terms the style and construction followed the practice of the mid 1930s with the red brick style. In 1941, after the Japanese entry into the war, defence efforts became more urgent and red brick was discarded in favour of timber framed buildings clad with corrugated galvanised iron or asbestos sheet.
