The St Kilda South African War Memorial drinking fountain is constructed out of a basalt block and specifically commemorates Edwin Knox for his service in South Africa, during the Boer War. The inscription reads "Erected by Subscription In memory of Edwin Knox Victorian Bushmen's Corps Died in South Africa February 26th 1901 Aged 24 years."
