Sir Thomas Blamey Monument - Veterans Description for Public
A statue of Field-Marshal Sir Thomas Blamey (1884-1951) is located in the Kings Garden, on the North side of Government House Drive. The bronze statue depicts the controversial Marshal in uniform, holding on to the top of a Jeep windscreen. The inscription notes his military roles, as G.O.C. of the A.I.F. 1939-1942 and Commander in Chief of Australian Military Forces and Commander Allied Land Forces South West Pacific 1942-5. The statue, designed by Raymond Ewers, was unveiled by the Prime Minister, Robert Gordon Menzies, on 27 February 1960.
