It is a poignant reminder of the devastating losses suffered by rural Australian communities during the two World Wars. The memorial was constructed utilising stones from the Burrowes flour mill, a massive industrial building which dominated the Barnawartha streetscape until it was destroyed during the 1952 bushfires.
