LYNCH'S BRIDGE PILES - History
The present bridge on this site was built in 1939, and replaced earlier successive bridges built in 1909, 1882 and 1864. The first bridge was built by Michael Lynch and had a wooden drawbridge to allow a vessels upstream access. It was built on the former site of Lynch's Punt Bridge, which had operated since 1849, and was an important crossing point for travellers to Geelong.LYNCH'S BRIDGE PILES - Interpretation of Site
Timber piles from the former John Gent Bridge are still evident at the beaching base in the water on either side of the river at low tide.
