HOBSONS BAY ANCHORAGE BUOYS - History
Ross' 1858 plan shows three mooring anchors in the middle of Hobsons Bay between the two railway piers at Williamstown and Sandridge. These moorings have disappeared by 1864.HOBSONS BAY ANCHORAGE BUOYS - Interpretation of Site
The intended use of these moorings is unknown (possibly for government vessels), but archaeological remains and the moorings (anchors/ buoys and chains) may still exist on site. These were the only reference foundof mooring anchors found that designated the appropriate areas of the earliest Hobsons Bay anchorage area.
