KURTONITJ H-1 (HOUSE AND YARDS) - History
James Mooney, a labourer from nearby Ettrick was the original leasee of allotment 1A3. Under his lease he built 154 chains of stone wall, 6 chains of post and rail fence and 41 chains of log and brush fence. In addition he built a stone house measuring 21x13 feet consiting of two rooms and a skillion as well as a wooden bridge over Darlots Creek, stone sheep yards and had made a half-acre garden. The lease was transferred to J R Learmouth (who woned a large amount of property in this area) in 1883. May be the house built by James Mooney in the mid 1870s. Mooney claimed to have built a stone house 21x13 feet and stone sheep yards as well as other improvements to allotment 1A3. Mooney lived in the house in the mid 1870s, but the house was transferred to J R Learmouth in 1883

KURTONITJ H-1 (HOUSE AND YARDS) - Heritage Inventory Description
Site consists of the remains of a basalt/bluestone house and of a dry stone enclosure located adjacent to Darlots Creek on Winda Mara Aboriginal Corporation's Kurtonitj property.
Bluestone hut/house measuring roughly 6.4x3.6m, walls of double stone thickness. Chimney built into the eastern wall. The northern wall has collapsed so that the doorway and windows no longer exist. Dry stone enclosure measuring about 7.5x7.5m
