Statement of Significance
1. Historically significant for the association with Cato, co-founder of Moran and Cato and benefactor to many institutions within the Methodist Church.
2. Architecturally significant for the outstanding interior and exterior addition by influential architects, Ussher and Kemp.
3. Architecturally significant for the extensive and rare art nouveau internal plasterwork, probably by Ussher and Kemp.
4. Architecturally significant as the best, most sophisticated example of the colonnaded Italianate mansion, much used by the notable Hawthorn architects Beswicke and Coote.
